The mission of Two Hearts Rock™ is to generate funds for the advancement of research for Childhood Rare Disease by using the power of music to fuel medical breakthroughs.
Dreams and Visions
Two years ago, two “random chics”, Kerry Hughes, a teacher, and Lori Butler, a medical marketing professional, began a journey as kindred spirits with a passion for rock-and-roll. Both also possessed a strong compassion for those who suffer from rare disease, especially children.
In November of 2010, a festive celebration was in order for a young friend, Bridget Kennicott, to mark her 6th birthday. Since her diagnosis in 2004, Bridget has been valiantly battling a rare, genetic and orphan disorder known as Batten Disease. Day by day, this horrific disease is slowly claiming Bridget’s life, robbing her of her childhood. Knowing that Bridget physically responds to music, and recognizing that her days are precious and numbered, these Two Hearts organized a gathering in Bridget’s honor, to share the healing power of music.
This celebration marked the beginning of a serendipitous journey of advocacy for Bridget and the 350 million people worldwide who are collectively impacted by 7,000 various rare diseases, a humbling and staggering statistic.
Kerry and Lori truly believe in the words of Bruce Springsteen: “Two hearts can get the job done”. They know that by harmonizing their individual talents, and combining their heartstrings, they will make a positive impact on the lives of many who suffer in the Rare Disease Community.
Using music to unite people, inspire advocacy, fund research and support the children and families suffering from Rare Disease is their vision. They are singing their song, and giving a voice to this critical cause. Two Hearts Rock ™ is the stage on which their dream of making a difference is coming alive.
